‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Box Office Hits $1.67 Billion Worldwide After Second Weekend
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day box office climbed to approximately $1.67 billion worldwide after its second weekend as the Sony and Marvel release remained No. 1 at the domestic box office.
The Spider-Man Brand New Day box office reached approximately $1.67 billion worldwide after the Sony and Marvel Studios release earned an estimated $144.5 million in North America during its second weekend, extending what has rapidly become one of 2026’s defining theatrical runs.
The film remained the No. 1 movie at the domestic box office for the August 7-9 weekend. Box Office Mojo reported a domestic cumulative total of about $655.1 million through Sunday, only 10 days into the release.
Spider-Man Brand New Day box office stays No. 1
The second-weekend performance is particularly notable because major franchise releases typically experience steep declines following exceptionally large opening weekends. Brand New Day nevertheless generated roughly $145 million across its second Friday-through-Sunday frame, according to industry estimates reported by Boxoffice Pro.
Daily domestic estimates illustrate the scale of the hold. Box Office Mojo listed approximately $43 million for Friday, $57 million for Saturday and $45 million for Sunday, bringing the weekend close to the $145 million mark.
The film played in 4,487 North American theaters Sunday, with Sony Pictures Releasing listed as distributor. The company’s official Sony Pictures site continues to feature promotional material for the film, including its final trailer.
Worldwide total climbs past $1.6 billion
The domestic performance is only part of the film’s commercial impact. International markets have pushed the worldwide total to approximately $1.67 billion, according to weekend reporting citing theatrical measurement data.
The Associated Press reported that the film had become the highest-grossing movie of 2026 by the end of its second weekend. The total also puts Brand New Day among a relatively small group of films to cross the billion-dollar global threshold, with the movie accomplishing that milestone unusually early in its theatrical run.
International results remained substantial during the latest frame. Box Office Mojo’s international market data listed Brand New Day at No. 1 in several territories for the weekend ending August 9, including China and the United Kingdom.
A major result for Sony and Marvel
The performance is consequential beyond a single franchise installment. Sony Pictures continues to distribute the live-action Spider-Man films made in collaboration with Marvel Studios, making the character one of the studio’s most commercially important theatrical properties.
The film’s second-weekend result also arrives as Hollywood continues to test whether major event films can sustain theatrical momentum beyond opening weekend. Brand New Day has so far answered that question with exceptionally high repeat-weekend revenue.
Boxoffice Pro estimated that the movie declined about 60 percent from its opening frame. A drop of that size would normally look severe in isolation, but the unusually large opening means the remaining weekend gross was still comparable to the opening weekends of many blockbuster releases.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man enters a new commercial tier
The result adds another milestone to Tom Holland’s tenure as Peter Parker. Holland returned for the latest chapter alongside a cast that includes Zendaya, with Sony positioning the movie as the next major stage of its Spider-Man partnership with Marvel.
The commercial performance is distinct from questions surrounding the character’s longer-term future. Holland recently discussed the idea that Spider-Man will eventually be carried forward beyond his own time in the role, but the current box office run demonstrates that his version of Peter Parker remains a significant theatrical draw.
For The Showbiz Journal, that distinction also makes the latest weekend a meaningful follow-up rather than a repetition of earlier coverage about Holland’s comments. The new development is measurable theatrical performance rather than casting speculation or another interview about the character’s future.
Weekend figures remain estimates
As with all Sunday box office reporting, the latest weekend numbers are estimates and can be adjusted once final studio and theatrical data are reported. Small changes would not alter the broader result: Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains the dominant domestic release and has moved deep into blockbuster territory worldwide.
The next major benchmark will be whether the film can continue retaining audiences as additional August releases enter theaters. For now, its second weekend confirms that the opening surge was not a one-week event. Sony’s Spider-Man franchise has produced one of the year’s largest theatrical stories, and the film still has significant time remaining in its global run.
