Josh Allen Out of Pocket Studios is officially moving the Buffalo Bills quarterback further into entertainment production, with the NFL star launching a company designed to develop television, documentary, commercial and experiential projects alongside his football career.

The new venture places Allen among a growing group of professional athletes building production businesses around their own creative interests and audiences. Variety reported the September 1 launch of Out of Pocket Studios, identifying Allen as CEO and executive producer across the company’s output.

Josh Allen Out of Pocket Studios expands his role beyond football

The company’s scope extends beyond NFL programming. Public trademark records for Out of Pocket Studios describe entertainment services covering motion pictures, documentaries, television shows and audiovisual programs, alongside advertising, marketing and commercial-content production.

The trademark application was filed in April by Out of Pocket Studios LLC and later advanced toward publication in August, providing an independent public record of the company’s entertainment and advertising ambitions before its formal media launch.

Allen’s expansion into production also builds on his existing relationship with Skydance Sports. The sports-content company has already worked across documentary, unscripted and scripted projects, creating a platform through which athletes can participate in entertainment projects beyond endorsement deals.

NFL Play Action is part of Allen’s growing media slate

One of the most visible early projects connected to Allen is NFL Play Action, a weekly Paramount+ series scheduled to begin streaming September 9. Paramount’s official press materials confirm Allen as an executive producer alongside Skydance Sports and the NFL.

The 13-episode magazine-style program will be hosted by Kyle Brandt with Ally Love as co-host. Rather than operating strictly as a game-analysis program, the series is designed to cover football alongside culture, fashion, food and personalities surrounding the league.

Paramount+ lists the series for a September 9 premiere and describes it as a weekly cultural recap of the NFL, with episodes scheduled to stream Wednesday nights.

That positioning illustrates the kind of territory Allen’s production interests can occupy. Instead of separating sports from entertainment, projects such as NFL Play Action treat the league as part of a broader culture that includes celebrity, lifestyle and media.

The production company has a broader mandate

Out of Pocket Studios is not being framed solely as a vehicle for Allen to appear on camera. Its stated production categories create room for documentary filmmaking, scripted and unscripted television, commercial work and experiential projects.

That distinction matters because athlete-founded production companies have increasingly become full-fledged media businesses rather than branding extensions. High-profile athletes can bring audiences, access and intellectual-property opportunities into projects while partnering with experienced production companies and distributors to handle development and execution.

Allen is entering that space while still in the prime of his NFL career. The timing gives the company access to his active relationship with football while allowing its eventual slate to move beyond sports-specific programming.

Out of Pocket already has projects connected to football and Buffalo

The company’s early slate reportedly includes projects tied to NFL culture as well as stories with a connection to Allen’s Buffalo community. That mix offers an indication of how Out of Pocket may balance broad entertainment opportunities with subjects closer to Allen’s existing identity and audience.

One documentary project, The Buffalo Miracle, centers on the actions of a Buffalo-area McDonald’s manager during the deadly Christmas 2022 snowstorm. The project has been associated with filmmaker Ben Proudfoot and reflects a community-focused direction distinct from conventional sports highlights or player profiles.

Allen’s media expansion also arrives alongside the continued development of NFL Play Action. Paramount+ has released an official teaser for the series, describing the program as a 360-degree look at football intended for a family co-viewing audience.

Athletes are increasingly becoming media owners

The larger significance of the launch is ownership. Athletes once primarily entered entertainment through endorsements, cameos or post-retirement broadcasting roles. Increasingly, prominent players are creating companies that give them a direct role in developing intellectual property, choosing stories and participating in production economics.

Allen’s move follows that broader shift while giving the quarterback a vehicle that can exist independently of his playing career. The brand is clearly rooted in football language, but the company’s stated business categories leave significant room to expand.

The studio’s future will ultimately depend on which projects move from development to release and whether its slate finds audiences beyond Allen’s existing fan base. For now, however, Josh Allen Out of Pocket Studios marks a clear expansion of the quarterback’s ambitions from professional football into entertainment ownership and production.
