‘Coven Academy’ Trailer Reveals Disney’s New Supernatural Drama Ahead of October Premiere
Malina Pauli Weissman, Jordan Leftwich and Ora Duplass lead the New Orleans-set series, with Tiffani Thiessen and Devon Sawa joining the magical-school ensemble.
Disney has released the full Coven Academy trailer, revealing a deeper look at the magic, rivalries and romantic complications awaiting the students of its new supernatural teen drama before the series premieres October 1 on Freeform.
The complete season will become available the following day on Disney+, Hulu and Freeform On Demand. Disney’s official trailer announcement expands considerably on the teaser released in August, putting Malina Pauli Weissman’s Briar at the center of a New Orleans story involving young witches, warlocks and an emerging supernatural threat.
Coven Academy trailer sends Briar into a magical new world
Weissman stars as Briar, a fiercely independent teenager from New York who discovers that her life is connected to a world of magic. Her arrival at the academy introduces her to young witches and warlocks whose abilities range from mind reading to manipulating time.
The series is set in New Orleans, where three teenage witches and their warlock peers attend an elite magical school. Disney’s premise establishes an environment in which supernatural power comes with social and personal consequences, while an older conflict increasingly threatens both the students and the city around them.
The new trailer focuses more heavily on Briar’s developing abilities than the earlier teaser. It also establishes a romantic triangle involving Briar, Jake and Ollie while suggesting that the students’ personal relationships will become entangled with the larger supernatural danger.
ABC7 independently covered the trailer’s release and the series’ magical-school premise ahead of the October premiere.

The official trailer offers the fullest look yet at Briar’s arrival at the academy, her emerging powers and the supernatural threat surrounding its students.
Malina Pauli Weissman leads the Coven Academy cast
Weissman is joined by Jordan Leftwich as Sasha and Ora Duplass as Tegan, forming the central trio of young witches. Malachi Barton plays Jake, while Louis Thresher portrays Ollie.
Tiffani Thiessen plays Miss Graves, the head of the academy, with Devon Sawa appearing as special guest star Mr. Cole, a warlock professor. The recurring ensemble includes BJ Harrison, Nathaniel Logan McIntyre, Swayam Bhatia, Brendon Tremblay and Keegan Connor Tracy.

Disney’s official media kit confirms the principal cast and describes the school as a place where the students must decide how far they are prepared to go to protect New Orleans and themselves.
Tim Federle created the series and serves as an executive producer. His previous Disney television work includes High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Darren Swimmer, Todd Slavkin, Amanda Row and Bronwyn North-Reist also executive produce.
The full season arrives on streaming October 2
Coven Academy will first premiere on Freeform at 8 p.m. ET/PT on October 1. Disney is then shifting the viewing model for the rest of the season, making the complete season available October 2 through Disney+, Hulu and Freeform On Demand.
That distribution gives viewers a choice between the initial linear premiere and a full-season streaming release immediately afterward. Disney has described the show as being designed around fast-paced, bingeable chapters rather than a conventional weekly streaming rollout.
Deadline independently confirmed the October schedule and reported that the new trailer places Briar’s powers and romantic complications at the center of the preview.
Coven Academy expands Disney’s supernatural fall lineup
The October timing places the series squarely in the Halloween viewing season. Its combination of a magical boarding school, young witches, warlocks, vampires and New Orleans mythology gives Disney a new supernatural property aimed at younger audiences while maintaining a more serialized dramatic structure.
The official press gallery also shows the production moving beyond promotional character imagery into episode-specific stills. Images released by Disney include Weissman alongside Leftwich and Duplass, Barton, Thiessen, Thresher and Sawa in scenes from the opening episodes.
The full Coven Academy trailer now provides the clearest indication of how those characters fit together before the series reaches Freeform on October 1 and Disney+ and Hulu on October 2.
