House of David is heading toward the throne and the end of its run. House of David Season 3 final season production is now underway in Greece, with Amazon MGM Studios and Wonder Project confirming that the third installment will conclude the Prime Video biblical drama.

The September 18 announcement adds an important piece of information that was absent when Prime Video renewed the series in July. Season 3 had already been ordered, but it had not officially been identified as the conclusion. Prime Video’s series guide previously confirmed the renewal and established the new chapter’s focus on David’s years as a fugitive before reaching the throne.

House of David Season 3 final season begins filming

Michael Iskander returns as David for the concluding chapter, which follows his transformation from overlooked shepherd and warrior toward his eventual position as king. Before reaching that destination, however, the character enters exile as a hunted outlaw forced to seek refuge among his enemies.

The producers are framing the ending as the completion of a story designed around David’s rise rather than an abrupt cancellation. Executive producers Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn said the third season represents the chapter they intended to reach from the beginning of the project.

Variety independently confirmed that production is underway in Greece and that Season 3 will officially be the series’ last. The announcement comes roughly two months after the third-season renewal was made public.

Michael Iskander returns as David

Iskander remains at the center of the ensemble after portraying David through the first two stages of the series’ planned arc. Season 1 followed the young shepherd toward his confrontation with Goliath, while Season 2 expanded his transformation into a warrior amid the increasingly unstable reign of King Saul.

Season 3 moves the character into the period between those achievements and the throne. The official storyline describes David as a fugitive living among his enemies while navigating betrayal, concealed identities and the sacrifices attached to his eventual rise.

Returning cast members include Ali Suliman as King Saul and Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam, alongside Indy Lewis, Ethan Kai, Yali Topol Margalith, Davood Ghadami, Alexander Uloom, Louis Ferreira, Sam Otto, Oded Fehr and Aury Alby.

TV Insider independently confirmed the returning ensemble and production start, while also noting the creators’ earlier description of David’s television journey as a three-part progression from shepherd to warrior to king.

The ending was not announced with the original renewal

The distinction between July’s renewal and September’s announcement is important. Prime Video announced Season 3 earlier this summer after the series had already established a sizable international audience, but neither Amazon nor Wonder Project identified that order as the show’s final season at the time.

The new announcement therefore changes the context surrounding the production. Instead of another installment with an open-ended future, Season 3 is now being produced specifically as the conclusion of the central David story.

Deadline also confirmed that the series is ending with its third season and that filming has begun in Greece.

When will House of David Season 3 premiere?

Amazon MGM Studios and Wonder Project have not announced a premiere date for the final season. With production only now underway, any specific release date would be premature until Prime Video provides one.

The first two seasons remain available globally through Prime Video. In the United States, the series is also part of the Wonder Project subscription offering available through Prime Video.

The final season is produced by Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios, with Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn among the executive producers. Rather than extending the series beyond David’s rise indefinitely, the production is now moving toward the destination its creators say they envisioned from the outset.

That makes the newly confirmed House of David Season 3 final season status more consequential than the earlier renewal alone. When the series returns, its next chapter will also be its last.
