Lindsay Lohan and Henry Golding will star together in Netflix’s new romance Return to You, a 2008-set film that also reunites Lohan with Mean Girls and Freaky Friday director Mark Waters. Netflix confirmed the project on September 28, with Lohan serving as both a lead actor and producer.

Lindsay Lohan Henry Golding Return to You casting puts two established romantic leads at the center of a story built around an incorrectly delivered DVD and the search it sets in motion. Netflix’s official guide confirms Waters will direct from a screenplay by Eric Champnella, with Brad Krevoy producing alongside Lohan.

Lindsay Lohan and Henry Golding lead Return to You

The film takes place in 2008 and follows a successful but lonely attorney who mistakenly receives an emotional DVD recorded by a dying woman for her husband.

With only information contained on the recording to guide her, the attorney sets out to find the intended recipient. Netflix identifies Lohan and Golding as the film’s two leads but has not yet announced additional cast members.

The premise makes the period setting more than background decoration. A physical DVD can plausibly become the central object in the story in a way that would operate differently in an era dominated by cloud storage, messaging apps and instant digital communication.

Entertainment Weekly independently confirmed the project and the Lohan-Waters reunion. No release date has been announced.

Return to You reunites Lohan with Mark Waters

Waters’ involvement gives the film an additional connection to two of Lohan’s defining early roles. He directed her in 2003’s Freaky Friday and 2004’s Mean Girls, making Return to You their first new feature collaboration in years.

Waters also has an established relationship with Netflix’s romance slate. His recent work for the service includes He’s All That, Mother of the Bride and La Dolce Villa.

The new film arrives as Netflix continues investing in romance projects built around both recognizable stars and established source material. TSJ recently covered the streamer’s casting of Beatrice Kitsos and David Iacono in the upcoming Better Than the Movies adaptation, another project aimed squarely at romance audiences.

Lohan is continuing her Netflix run as a producer

Return to You also extends Lohan’s relationship with Netflix beyond acting. She is producing the movie alongside Brad Krevoy, while Olivia Krevoy, Jimmy Townsend and Galen Fletcher are executive producers. Champnella wrote the screenplay.

Lohan previously starred in Netflix films including Falling for Christmas, Irish Wish and Our Little Secret. The new project therefore continues a screen partnership that has become a substantial part of her recent film career.

People also confirmed Lohan’s starring and producing roles, Golding’s casting and Waters’ return as director.

Golding brings his own history with screen romance. His breakthrough role as Nick Young in Crazy Rich Asians established him with a global romantic-comedy audience, while subsequent films have moved between romance, comedy, drama and action.

What Netflix has not revealed about Return to You

Several major pieces of the project remain undisclosed. Netflix has not announced a release date, a complete supporting cast, or a first trailer.

Those omissions matter because the official announcement establishes the film’s creative core without creating a release timetable that does not yet exist. The confirmed elements are Lohan and Golding as the leads, Waters as director, Champnella as writer and Lohan and Krevoy as producers.

The combination nevertheless gives Return to You a clear identity before more casting arrives: a period romance built around pre-smartphone technology, two actors with substantial romantic-film recognition and a reunion between Lohan and a director closely associated with two of the movies that helped define her early career.
