The Messi and the Giants teaser has revealed the first extended look at Lionel Messi’s animated sports-fantasy series, introducing a 12-year-old hero named Leo and the alternate world where soccer-like competition becomes part of a much larger battle. Disney debuted the teaser October 2 at San Diego Comic-Con Málaga and confirmed that the series will arrive globally on Disney+ in summer 2027.

The presentation also established two major pieces of the show’s identity. Argentinian actor Milo Burgess-Webb will voice Leo, while the teaser features the original theme song “Vamos, Vamos, Vamos” by Argentinian artist Luck Ra, according to Disney+’s official first-look announcement.

Messi and the Giants teaser introduces the world of Iko

The series follows Leo after he becomes trapped in an alternate reality controlled by giants. His route home depends on navigating the fractured realms of Iko and competing in high-stakes games that borrow the language of soccer while adding fantasy mechanics built around powerful objects called orbs.

There is an important complication. Other competitors can use what Disney describes as the world’s “code powers” to enhance their abilities, while Leo cannot. That leaves him dependent on ordinary strengths including skill, teamwork and persistence rather than the supernatural advantage available to his opponents.

The setup makes the connection to Messi broader than simply putting a famous soccer player’s name on an animated project. The fictional sport is being used as the framework for an underdog story about a young player learning how to compete when the rules appear to favor everyone else.

Sony Music’s announcement independently confirms Burgess-Webb’s casting, Luck Ra’s theme song and the summer 2027 Disney+ window.

Lionel Messi is an executive producer

Messi serves as an executive producer rather than voicing Leo. The production brings together several companies across television, music and animation.

Kurt Mueller, Bryan Korn, Lacey Stanton and Guy Toubes executive produce for Sony Pictures Television, while Afo Verde represents Sony Music Latin Iberia and Tom Mackay and Sergi Reitg executive produce for Sony Music Vision. Lionel Messi Cuccittini and Jorge Messi Pérez, credited in memoriam, are also executive producers. Atlantis Animation is handling the animation.

The project has been in development publicly for considerably longer than the new teaser suggests. Sony Pictures announced Disney’s acquisition of the series in December 2024, describing it at the time as an action-adventure project inspired by Messi and centered on a young boy transported from Argentina into a fantasy universe.

The October 2026 teaser is therefore a material new development rather than a new-project announcement. It provides the first substantial look at the finished visual world, identifies the lead voice performer and theme-song artist, and narrows the release plan to summer 2027.

The series will stream globally and air on Disney Channel in the U.S.

Disney says Messi and the Giants will premiere globally on Disney+ in summer 2027 and will also air on Disney Channel in the United States. An exact premiere date and episode count have not been announced.

The first-look presentation in Málaga was led by executive producers Lacey Stanton and Bryan Korn, director Dan Creteur of Atlantis Studios and Sony Music Vision executive producer Sergi Reitg. Disney says the Hall M presentation drew more than 3,000 attendees.

The teaser also gives the series a clearer identity than its original development announcement. Instead of portraying Messi himself as an animated protagonist, the show centers on Leo and translates ideas associated with competitive sport into a fantasy narrative built around teamwork, resilience and an uneven playing field.

That distinction may help the series operate beyond a conventional celebrity vehicle. Messi’s role remains central behind the scenes, but the story is being constructed around a fictional child, a separate mythology and a world designed to continue independently of the football star’s own biography.

Messi and the Giants is scheduled to premiere globally on Disney+ and on Disney Channel in the United States in summer 2027. Disney has not yet announced a specific launch date.
