‘Scary Movie’ Sets Paramount+ Streaming Date After $230 Million Box Office Run
The Scary Movie Paramount+ streaming date is officially set. Paramount+ announced Wednesday, August 19, that the sixth installment in the horror-comedy franchise will begin streaming exclusively on the service September 3, giving the Wayans-led revival its subscription-streaming debut roughly three months after its theatrical release.
The movie opened in U.S. theaters June 5 and reunited Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans with Anna Faris and Regina Hall, bringing several of the franchise’s original characters back together after more than two decades. Paramount’s official streaming announcement also confirms that the new film has earned more than $230 million worldwide.
Scary Movie Paramount+ streaming date follows a strong theatrical run
The September 3 arrival gives Scary Movie a theatrical-to-streaming window of about 90 days. The movie has already been available through digital purchase and rental, but the Paramount+ launch represents its first inclusion with a major subscription streaming service.
Box office data independently supports Paramount’s description of the film as a commercial success. The Numbers currently lists more than $231 million in worldwide ticket sales, while Box Office Mojo places the global total at approximately $231.9 million. The slight difference reflects the way individual box office trackers update international grosses.
The result gave the revival substantial momentum after a long absence from theaters. The previous installment, Scary Movie 5, arrived in 2013, while the original film debuted in 2000.
The Wayans brothers returned to the franchise they helped launch
The 2026 movie’s most significant creative hook was the return of members of the Wayans family. Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans reprise Shorty and Ray Wilkins, while Faris returns as Cindy Campbell and Hall again plays Brenda Meeks.
Paramount’s official film page describes the movie as a new encounter with a masked killer that uses the familiar characters to parody contemporary horror franchises and genre trends.
Michael Tiddes directed the installment. Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans and Rick Alvarez are credited on the screenplay, with members of the Wayans family also serving as producers.
The cast extends well beyond the returning leads. Paramount lists Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri and Chris Elliott among returning performers, with Kenan Thompson, Kim Wayans, Damon Wayans Jr., Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Sydney Park and other newcomers joining the ensemble.
The entire Scary Movie franchise is being positioned on Paramount+
The September release also strengthens Paramount+’s existing Scary Movie library. The service already carries the franchise’s first five movies, allowing the newest entry to join the previous installments in one streaming destination.
That matters for a revival built heavily around familiarity. The sixth film does not simply reuse the franchise name. It returns several characters and performers associated with the original run, making the older installments directly relevant to audiences arriving through the new movie.
Paramount+ has been promoting the broader franchise as part of its comedy catalog, alongside spoof and comedy titles including The Naked Gun films and Airplane!.

The movie’s transition to streaming comes after an opening weekend that demonstrated there was still an audience for the long-running parody franchise. The film debuted with more than $54 million domestically and ultimately passed $100 million in North America, according to current box office tracking.
For Paramount and Miramax, that performance transformed the return of Scary Movie from a nostalgia-driven reunion into one of the more commercially successful comedy releases of the summer.
The Scary Movie Paramount+ streaming date now gives the revival another audience opportunity beginning September 3. For viewers who skipped the theatrical and digital windows, it will also be the first chance to watch the Wayans, Faris and Hall reunion as part of a standard Paramount+ subscription.
