The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth trailer has brought Brad Pitt’s Oscar-winning stuntman back to the screen, this time under the direction of David Fincher. Netflix released the film’s first full trailer online on September 21, revealing a 1977 Hollywood where Cliff Booth has moved beyond stunt work and into a considerably murkier line of business.

Quentin Tarantino wrote the screenplay after creating Cliff for 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but Fincher directs the new film. Netflix’s official trailer confirms that the film will begin its theatrical rollout in IMAX on November 25, with Netflix’s fall movie schedule setting its streaming debut for December 23.

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth trailer moves the story to 1977

Eight years have passed inside the story since audiences last saw Cliff navigating Tarantino’s alternate version of 1969 Los Angeles. The new film finds him in a Hollywood that has changed considerably since his years working as Rick Dalton’s stunt double and right-hand man.

Cliff now works as a bartender and projectionist while taking on less conventional assignments around the film business. The trailer presents him as a fixer whose willingness to operate outside ordinary rules makes him useful when Hollywood’s powerful people encounter problems they would prefer to keep quiet.

Netflix’s Media Center describes the project as a return to Pitt’s Academy Award-winning role and confirms Fincher as director from Tarantino’s screenplay.

The footage introduces Elizabeth Debicki as talent agent Karen Crosby, who approaches Cliff in connection with her client Charlie Peters, a television actor played by Scott Caan. Carla Gugino plays Charlie’s wife, Toni, while Yahya Abdul-Mateen II appears as football star-turned-actor Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison.

Brad Pitt and David Fincher reunite

The project also reunites Pitt and Fincher after a creative partnership that produced Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Their last feature collaboration arrived in 2008, making the new film their first together in nearly two decades.

What makes the arrangement unusual is Tarantino’s position in the project. He remains the writer and creator of the characters, but another filmmaker is directing a continuation of a world he previously controlled as writer-director.

TheWrap’s trailer coverage notes another distinction: the film is set to become Netflix’s first movie released in IMAX theaters around the world.

Pitt won the Academy Award for supporting actor for playing Cliff in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The new film does not simply place the character back in the same circumstances. The time jump and his new work as a fixer give Fincher and Tarantino a way to revisit Cliff without recreating the actor-and-stuntman relationship that defined the original film.

A new ensemble surrounds Cliff Booth

Netflix’s announced cast also includes Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian. Timothy Olyphant returns as James Stacy, while the trailer expands the film’s criminal side through characters operating around 1970s Hollywood.

UPI independently reported the September 21 trailer release and confirmed Debicki, Caan, Gugino and Abdul-Mateen among the principal new players.

The story is not being positioned as a conventional recreation of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Rick Dalton remains part of Cliff’s history, but the trailer centers Pitt’s character and the people he encounters as he navigates the industry’s more dangerous corners.

Netflix is giving Cliff Booth an IMAX-first release

The release strategy is almost as notable as the creative pairing behind the film. Netflix will put The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth into IMAX theaters beginning November 25 before bringing it to the streaming service on December 23.

That gives audiences an unusually prominent theatrical window for a Netflix production and positions the film as one of the streamer’s major year-end releases.

Netflix had already revealed the title and release plan before this week, meaning those details alone are not the new development. What changed on September 21 is that audiences received the first full online look at Fincher’s version of Cliff’s world, including the characters, tone and 1977 setting that will define the continuation.

With Pitt back in the role, Fincher behind the camera and Tarantino still responsible for the screenplay, the The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth trailer establishes a continuation that retains the original character while handing his next chapter to a very different director.
