Tom Cruise’s New Home Release Comes With Big Stunts and Bigger Extras

‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ hits digital in mid-August, with physical copies in October. io9 shared an exclusive commentary clip and confirmed the August 19, 2025 digital date. In the clip, Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie talk through stunt shots, and Cruise even laughs at the pain of doing them for real.

The mine-shaft Jeep chase: filmed for real

A new featurette, “Through the Mine”, explains how the team shot a tight, dusty car chase inside Middleton Mine in Derbyshire, U.K. The clip appears with the digital release and shows how the crew staged shots in cramped tunnels. 

The location is real. U.K. production sources list Middleton Mine as a key site used for the film’s underground sequence. 

Deleted scene: the biplane transfer that didn’t make it

It shows a deleted aerial beat near the finale. Ethan tries to move from his biplane to the villain’s plane, hits the control stick, and the aircraft rolls hard. McQuarrie says they shot about 400 hours to carve down to 15 minutes, but this piece was cut as “redundant.”
